New Zealand Fragile Beauty

This photo book shows New Zealand’s
nature. It is neither a travel guide, nor does it depict the
country’s people, towns, cities or culture – it solely deals with
New Zealand’s many remaining wilderness areas. And it does so in
two languages – English and German.

An introduction describes how and why the author
emigrated here from Germany in 1994 and how New Zealand changed
during the following thirty years. After that, a text of 30 pages
titled \”Green and Clean and in Harmony
with Nature?\” tells the story of New
Zealand’s ecological history, right from the beginnings 80 Million
years ago, and answers the question why after just 8 centuries of
human settlement only less than a third of the original landscape has
survived. The rest of the book celebrates those surviving 30 % of
wilderness and their animal residents in many beautiful pictures, all
taken during the last ten years, from Northland at the top of the
North Island down to Fiordland at the bottom of the South. Each
regional chapter comes with its own introduction and is accompanied
by an artistically drawn and painted map.
